      Michael Ring is one of three outgoing Fine Gael TDs hoping to hold on to their place in the Mayo five-seater. The 57-year-old was first elected in 1994 when he triumphed in a by-election held following the resignation of Padraig Flynn. He was subsequently re-elected in 1997, 2002 and 2007. Ring is currently Fine Gael's Spokesperson on Social Protection.

      In 2006, Magill Magazine chose Ring as their "Heckler of the Year" for challenging the government in a lively, witty and effective manner from the opposition benches.
