Labour Party Senator Dominic Hannigan will contest the general election in Meath East. Hannigan has been politically active in the area since he first won election to Meath County Council as an independent candidate in 2004. Following his failure to win a seat for Labour in the 2007 general election, Hannigan was elected to Seanad Eireann by the Industrial and Commercial Panel.

In 1995, Hannigan set up his own business consultancy firm which provides advice to the health, transport, communications and entertainment sectors.
