33-year-old outgoing TD Thomas Byrne is running for a second term of office as a representative of the Meath East constituency. Byrne was first elected in 2007 when he picked up over 18 per cent of first-preference votes. In 2009, he unsucessfully challenged for a seat in the European Parliament as a candidate in the East constituency.
