Labour Senator Phil Prendergast is a general election candidate in Tipperary South. Prendergast, who once worked as a nurse and midwife in South Tipperary General Hospital as well as in the UK, has been active in local politics since her election as an independent to Clonmel Corporation in 1994. She joined Labour in mid-2006 ahead of her unsuccessful general election run in 2007. She was elected to the Seanad's Labour Panel shortly thereafter and is currently the party's Spokesperson on Older People.
