Payment of garda allowances and overtime delayed until new year

The Garda Representative Association said a legacy has developed whereby the time discrepancy for payments can be as much as 56 days.

MEMBERS OF AN Garda Síochana will not receive their allowances or overtime payments for November until the new year, it was revealed today.

A spokesperson for the Garda Representative Association (GRA) told TheJournal.ie that Garda allowances and overtime have been paid monthly in arrears over the last few years.

In a statement, GRA Vice President Dermot O’Brien said that over recent years “a legacy has developed whereby allowances and overtime earned in November – which should be paid in December – are held over until January”.

“We are engaging with officials in another attempt to remedy the time discrepancy – which can be as much as 56 days,” he said.
