GARDAÍ HAVE SEIZED €350,000 in cash and €10,000-worth of prescription drugs in Dublin and Cavan.
As part of ongoing investigations targeting criminal activity in the Dublin region, a number of vehicles were stopped on the M1 motorway just north of Swords by gardaí from the Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau yesterday evening.
During this operation, €350,000 in cash was seized and three men in their 40s were arrested. The cash was in vacuum packs in a holdall bag.
Follow up searches were conducted in a number of areas, with the assistance of gardaí from the Dublin region and Cavan district.
A vacuum-packing machine and associated equipment was recovered at an address in Tallaght, and Zopiclone tablets with a street value in excess of €10,000 were recovered at an address in Bailieboro.
Two of the men arrested have been released pending the submission of files to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
One man remains in custody at Swords garda station. He is being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
Zopiclone is commonly prescribed for people with problems sleeping. The drug, which has a sedating effect, is sometimes taken in combination with other substances by drug users.
