The incident took place in Limerick yesterday morning.

THE GARDA OMBUDSMAN has been called in to investigate a road traffic collision involving an off-duty garda.

A pedestrian in his 60s was injured yesterday morning on the M7 in Limerick.

It’s understood the man was crossing the motorway after his car broke down when he was struck by a white Renault van.

The van involved was being driven by an off-duty garda.

The incident has now been referred to the Garda Ombudsman for independent investigation.

Witnesses or anyone with information which may assist the investigation are encouraged to contact GSOC on 1890 600 800 or Roxboro Road Garda Station.

It comes after the Garda Ombudsman was called in to investigate after a man who had been in Garda custody died yesterday morning.
