THE GARDA OMBUDSMAN has been called in to investigate after a man who had been in Garda custody died this morning.
The man in his mid-twenties was pronounced dead in the Mater hospital in Dublin after he was transferred there from Ballymun Garda Station by ambulance.
He had been arrested and brought to Ballymun Garda Station in the early hours of this morning.
A doctor was called as he appeared unwell. He was subsequently released from custody but while still at the garda station – he became more unwell.
He was then taken to the hospital by ambulance – where he was pronounced dead at around 4.30am.
