A GYMNASTICS IRELAND event due to take place at the National Indoor Arena in Dublin has been cancelled due to technical issues.
It’s understood the cancellation is due to power outages at the venue, which is located in Blanchardstown.
In a statement, the National Indoor Arena said: “On behalf of The Sport Ireland National Indoor Arena, we regret to inform all competitors and attendees that this weekend’s event is cancelled.
“Technical issues beyond our control have led us to this decision, with safety of all being at the forefront of this decision. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused to Gymnastics Ireland, attendees and competitors.”
This is the second time a competition at the venue had to be cancelled in recent weeks, leaving parents angry at the last-minute decision.
Many families had travelled from elsewhere in the country to attend the event.
A number of people have been venting their disappointment and frustration online, with some labelling the situation a “disgrace”.
One woman wrote that this is the second time she has lost money on hotels and the cost of travelling, and asked if families would be reimbursed.
“With Christmas around the corner no one can afford these expenses,” she wrote.
Gymnastics Ireland, which is based at the Blanchardstown site, shared the arena’s statement on its social media pages. The organisation could not be reached for further comment at the time of publication.
