The Irish company will run 11 retail outlets at a new Chinese facility with the capacity to deal with 70 million passengers a year.

AER RIANTA INTERNATIONAL has agreed a deal which will see it operate 11 retail outlets at a new international airport run by the Chinese airport group Yunnan.

The new Kunming Changshui International Airport, is due to open in January 2012 as a replacement to the airport currently in operation there. It is designed to deal with a capacity of 70 million passengers a year and is expected to be the country’s fourth-largest airport when it opens.

ARI, a subsidiary of the Dublin Airport Authority, already runs retail outlets in Europe, the Middle East, India, North America and the Caribbean, but this deal marks the company’s first venture into the Chinese market. The company’s 11 outlets at Kunming will sell duty-paid products ranging from skincare and cosmetics, to accessories.
