INVESTIGATIONS INTO an incident yesterday evening in which a young girl was struck by a train near Tipperary town are continuing.

The Railway Accident Investigation Unit, the gardaí and Irish Rail are all investigating the circumstances of the incident which occurred at around 7.30pm outside Limerick Junction on the Waterford line.

A team from the Railway Accident Investigation Unit attended the scene last night and is carrying out a preliminary examination into the incident.

It is understood the girl, 9, lives in a house near the railway tracks.
