Apple delays larger iPad plans so it can make more iPhones
The production of the larger iPad was originally planned to start in December, but strong demand for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus pushed this back to early next year.
APPLE SUPPLIERS HAVE pushed back their plans to produce a larger screen iPad until early next year as it tries to meet demand for the new iPhones.
Originally, the plan was to start producing the larger iPads in mass volume at the beginning of December.
However, the strong demand for the larger screened iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, which are now 4.8 and 5.5-inches respectively, has changed these plans according to the Wall Street Journal.
Apple has already sent out invites for a press event happening next week on the 16 October, where it’s expected to announce its new iPad and Mac range.
It’s believed that Apple is working on a 12.9-inch iPad, larger than the 9.7-inch iPad Air, but it’s not clear whether this will be announced at the event itself. The plans come as iPad sales begin to slow down to consumers wanting larger smartphones instead.
On the opening weekend, Apple said it had sold 10 million iPhone 6 and 6 Plus devices, before it launched in another 19 countries (including Ireland) last month.
It’s expected to start selling both phones in China on 17 October as well, and will likely give an update on its sales when it holds its quarterly earnings report on 20 October.
Suppliers are also preparing mass production of a 12-inch MacBook Air in December, which would strike a middle ground between the current MacBook Air sizes of 11 and 13-inches.
