Gardaí 'may be in position to charge' Lisa Smith upon arrival in Ireland, Varadkar says

Smith is expected to arrive back in Ireland this weekend.

GARDAÍ MAY BE in a position to charge Lisa Smith following her expected arrival back in Ireland this weekend, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said.

The former Defence Forces member who was married to a fighter for the so-called Islamic State (IS) is expected to arrived in Ireland this weekend.

Depending on how quickly her case is processed by Turkish officials, she could land back in Ireland as soon as today. However, if the process is delayed, it could be tomorrow evening, sources say.

It’s understood that members of the Defence Forces flew to Turkey to accompany Lisa Smith and her child on their way back to Ireland. They are expected to fly home on a commercial aircraft.

Speaking to reporters today at the Dublin Mid-West by-election count centre, Varadkar said: “It’s anticipated that two Irish citizens – Lisa Smith and her daughter – will return to Ireland this weekend.

“Obviously, when it comes to her daughter, she is a child, she’s going to be protected. Social services are ready to do that.”

Tusla is involved in the welfare plans being put in place for Smith’s two-year-old child ahead of their return to Ireland.

Varadkar went on to say that gardaí “are going to want to speak to” Smith upon her arrival in Ireland. He said:

They may be in a position to charge her. If they do, then prosecution may follow.

Smith had lived in Syria until Turkey’s recent incursion into the country.

She had been captured by Kurdish forces in northeast Syria after Islamic State fighters lost control of their final stronghold.

She was being held with her two-year old daughter in the Al-Hawl displacement camp for the wives and children of IS fighters.

Madness – when talking about bringing back Lisa Smith, the woman who freely went to Syria and willingly joined the headhackers and gave birth to a child fathered by one of the terrorists of ISIS, our wonderful leader Leeo Varadkar stated:

“ultimately the child is an Irish citizen and deserves to be protected, in my view, ultimately we seek to protect our citizens.”

Do the thousands of homeless Irish children and thousands of homeless adults and families not deserve the full protection of the Irish state?

@Bryan Yelahw: the mother of the child turned her back on Ireland and is only looking for Irish help now that her so called paradise has collapsed and her head hacking buddies have lost their grip in Syria and Iraq. The child also has or had a father and where was he from and why did she not choose to go there or to a country that is more in line with her beliefs.

If you or i go off and break a leg or need assistance coming back from Spain or Germany, we pay for our trip home, even if we have an irish born child.

In regards to your last point or childish and immature question about my ethnicity, you really do need to grow up. I did not run off and join a terrorist group and then winge to get the government and the people of Ireland to bring me home. I also did not mention the child.

@Bryan Yelahw: nobody is challenging the baby’s or the mother’s right to citizenship, the point that the vast majority of the people are upset with are the resources and money being used and spent on bringing a person that willingly travelled to Syria and joined one of the most vicious and barbarian terrorist groups in history and now the government is placing her welfare ahead of the thousands of irish citizens that are homeless or require state aid and never joined a terrorist organisation and paid taxes to the state as well. She made it over now she can surely make it back. Perhaps borrow money from family and friends as others would have to do.

Is-is on the other hand are jubilant having sleepers in Europe, that was their ultimate goal. Thanks to our PM it was made possible, one day we will regret the decision just like yesterday in London. Ireland is a soft touch but then why would Isis want to carry out missions in Ireland as we have seventy supposedly monitored daily that is a hugh cost on resources. Bataclan, Nice, Manchester – she signed up to terror and hate and would have celebrated these events with the monstrous caveman around her. She can protest her innocence BS all she wants but she joined IS on her own free will, so take the kid away and drop her back in the desert.

Look at what has happened in London this week , the way Isis are getting away with murder, there has to be a point where the innocent ppl in the UK and Ireland must come first before criminals that pose a threat to it’s citizens. Terrorists should be treated as such put behind bars . Her kid is an innocent child , but not an Irish citizen but a Syrian.

Best way to de-radicalise these defeated traitors and terrorists is to send them for interrogation by the victorious army of Syria’s President Assad. #bangbangyrdead

The child has every right to be protected but what do they think is gonna happen with her? especially after what just happened in London by a man with previous links to terrorism…. hopefully no innocent lives will be lost again because the state can trust and feel the need to protect her :/

@Liam Mc Meel: Unfortunately many Yazidi people will not be settling down and getting on with life.
From the Washington Post: “Yazidi men and boys who had reached puberty were separated from the women and other children and often shot dead at roadsides. Women were bused to temporary holding sites and then sold to Islamic State fighters at slave markets. Islamic State clerics had decided that having slaves was religiously sanctioned, institutionalizing sexual violence across their caliphate. Women have reported being tied to beds during daily assaults. They were sold from man to man. Gang rape was common.”

    @Liam Mc Meel:

Wishful thinking, Liam! But very compassionate nonetheless, if only there was a permanent cure for radicalization. UK thought it had the answer. Tragic London Bridge incident this week proves otherwise.

A tough one for our State! One of our own getting caught up…how rare is that?

Incarceration isn’t the answer. The child needs its mother. Immediate family, close friends, past employers, social services keeping an eye on her; appropriate counselling and an electronic tag could all work wonders towards full rehabilitation.

The old maxim of it taking a village to raise a child comes to mind! Add to that…a community effort to keep a local crackpot on an even keel!

    Good luck Dundalk!

She should not be allowed to keep her child, she willingly travelled to join a vile terrorist organisation which ruled by fear, murder, rape and slavery. She knew that women and children were raped tortured and brutally butchered for the depravity of the men. She had her interview on now wants come ‘home’ as there is nothing left of her glorious caliphate. She’s not fit to be a mother, she definitely not fit to be called human.

I agree she left Ireland to join a notorious group of people and now has asked to come home again. Lisa is coming home to a welcome and I’m not sure what offences she has committed or whether she is a criminal or not. I am an Irishman and I came home from england in the 70s so as to make a better life for my family and me. But when I set about doing this I was very badly treated. I was arrested and jailed for no reason. I have no criminal record.
