Pipe bomb explodes in Limerick

Second device was made safe after it was discovered by emergency services called to scene of explosion.

A PIPE BOMB EXPLODED early this morning outside a house in Ballywilliam, Rathkeale, Co Limerick, the PA reports.

The Limerick Leader reports that emergency services were called to the scene of a fire at the house at around 4.30am, and a suspicious device was discovered.

This second device was made safe by an army bomb disposal team.

The remains of the first, exploded, device were handed over to gardaí.

A woman aged in her 50s is believed to have been in the house at the time but was not injured. The door of the property was slightly damaged in the explosion.
