Revenue arrests man who swallowed 80 pellets of cannabis resin

The Romanian man arrived on a flight from Spain on Friday night.

A MAN SWALLOWED 80 pellets of cannabis resin worth in the region of €6,000 but was foiled at Cork Airport yesterday when Revenue officials arrested him.

The Romanian man, 36, was selected for examination following his arrival on a flight from Spain on Friday night as part of routine profiling by Customs officers.

Officials seized between three and four kilos of cannabis resin which had been ingested in the form of sealed pellets in an attempt to avoid detection.

The final pellet was retrieved in special facilities used by Revenue’s Customs Service at Cork Airport yesterday afternoon.

The man’s medical condition had been assessed at Cork University Hospital yesterday morning.

Revenue said he was arrested by Customs Officers and removed to a Cork Garda Station, where charges were brought against him.
