Byrne was first elected to Wexford County Council in 2019 and topped the polls in 2024. He has served on the board of directors of the 1798 Rebellion Centre and has been an elected member of the Wexford GAA County Board since 2015. He works as a solicitor in Enniscorthy. Byrne has also previously worked at the office of the Attorney General, and on the successful US Congressional campaign of Joe Kennedy III.
