John Lyons was first elected to Dublin City Council in 2014 and has been involved in community activism for years. His priorities are housing, disability rights, climate change, animal and LGBTQ+ rights.

I believe that everyone has the right to a warm, safe place to call home, quality life-long education and access to healthcare when they need it; to live in vibrant, healthy communities; to work in good secure jobs that pay a good wage; and to have childcare places for their children that are affordable and secure. But right now, in the Republic of Ireland of 2024, far too many people are being denied these rights. I want to play my part in creating a more caring, inclusive and fairer society for everyone who calls Ireland home, those of us born and bred and more recent arrivals too.

The chronic lack of affordable housing to rent or purchase is causing such frustration, hardship and hopelessness for so many individuals, couples and families locked out and prevented from having a secure, affordable place to call from which they can build their lives and thrive.

The challenges facing us as a society in terms of housing, health, education and childcare, workers' rights; LGBTQIA+ rights and disability rights, community and youth investment, animal rights, our country's role in world affairs and the ultimate challenge of taking action on climate breakdown which will incorporate all of the challenges above - and then I would detail how I believe we can transform our society together through principled representation in Dáil Éireann aligned to grassroots organising in our communties.
