Biography
O'Brien was first elected to Mayo County Council in 2004 as a member of Fine Gael. He was re-elected at three subsequent elections, before being expelled from the party in 2020 after complaints were made about him. He was re-elected as an independent councillor in 2024, topping the poll in the local elections in June.
