Duffy was elected to Mayo County Council in 2019 and 2024 as an independent before announcing he would run as a Fine Gael candidate in the general election. Originally from Ballina, Duffy moved to Dublin to work on the creation of an All-Ireland soccer league. In 2019, he moved back to Mayo to contest the local elections. He was previously President of ATU Mayo Students' Union.
