Tailgating reduced by 65 per cent after toll company introduces new measures
Toll company eFlow says that new measures introduced in March have led to the reduction in the number of motorists tailgating.
MEASURES AIMED AT tackling tailgating on the M50 have resulted in a 65 per cent reduction in instances of the road offence according to new figures out today.
The toll company that operates the M50 toll, eFlow, said that instances of tailgating – an act whereby motorists drive within inches of HGVs in an attempt to hide their licence plate number from overhead toll cameras – had reduced by on average 134 per day over the last two months.
In March the company introduced new cameras that captured the rear licence plate number of all vehicles passing through the barrier-free toll as well as the front licence plate making it harder for prospective offenders to avoid paying the €3 toll.
The company said that a small number of motorists continue to offend and said gardaí were continuing to work to stop what it called the “dangerous practice” of tailgating.
