- A number of major financial institutions have agreed to write off large sums of Greece’s national debt, potentially paving the way for the country to receive its second bailout worth €130billion.
- Ireland is currently spending €3,879 a year more for every resident than it raises in taxes. That’s according to calculations by Fine Gael TD Noel Harrington.
- Bord na Móna workers have voted “overwhelmingly” to take industrial action in a dispute over a pay increase.
- Innovation minister Seán Sherlock has opened an online consultation process for Ireland’s upcoming review of copyright law. The minister was criticised recently for not allowing proper debate on a tightening of online copyright controls.
- There will be no monthly payment option for motor tax, according to environment minister Phil Hogan, who confirmed that the Government will continue to levy a surcharge on three- and six-month tax discs.

- A total of 145 new jobs were announced today, with 110 at a technology firm in Galway and Dublin and 35 at Western Union.
- Meanwhile, it’s emerged that more than 12,000 people attended the Working Abroad Expo held over the weekend at Dublin’s RDS, with 250 jobs reportedly offered. Organisers were forced to close the doors early yesterday as the crowds were so large.
- Mum-of-one Ann Cronin has written for TheJournal.ie about how she attended the event hoping for opportunities abroad, but found a window on today’s Ireland – and the view wasn’t pleasant.
