Two in court over £1m Belfast cannabis seizure

Cannabis worth £1m (€1.12m) was seized in the North on Thursday, with two men in court later.

TWO MEN are to appear in court in Northern Ireland today charged with a number of drugs offences after £1m worth of cannabis was seized in the docklands area of Belfast on Thursday.

Officers from the organised crime branch of the PSNI had stopped a taxi and another vehicle in the Duncrue area in the north of the city at around lunchtime, the BBC reports.

The drugs were found inside three holdall bags when police searched the cars. The two men, aged 36 and 29, were arrested and taken in for questioning, and later charged.

UTV says the two men are charged with possession of cannabis, possession of cannabis with intent to supply, and transferring criminal property.

PSNI Chief Superintendent Roy McComb, who is the head of the organised crime branch, said the raid indicated “that organised criminals are intent on bringing misery in the form of illegal drugs into our communities.

“We are determined they will be stopped.”
