Two men arrested over St Patrick's Day party killing

Ciaran O’Connell, 22, died after three days fighting for his life in hospital.

TWO MEN HAVE been arrested after a man was murdered at a party to celebrate St Patrick’s Day.

Ciarán O’Connell, 22, died on Wednesday from injuries he sustained in an attack in the early hours of Saturday morning.

He was at a party at a house in Mullagh, Co Cavan when the incident happened at around 4.40am.

Two men in their 20s were taken into custody in relation to O’Connell’s death this morning. They are being held at Bailieboro garda station under section four of the Criminal Justice Act.

O’Connell was initially taken to Cavan General Hospital before being transferred to Beaumont in Dublin when his condition worsened.

Gardaí confirmed that a murder investigation had been launched after a post-mortem was carried out. Guests who were at the party at the time have been questioned.
