Assault

Murder investigation launched in Cavan

A 22-year-old man has died after being assaulted while attending a party at Mullagh on Saturday.

GARDAÍ AT BAILIEBOROUGH have launched a murder investigation after a 22-year-old man died in the early hours of this morning from injuries sustained in an assault on Saturday.

Following post mortem results today, the investigation was upgraded to a murder probe.

Ciarán O’Connell received serious injuries in an incident at a home in Rosehill, Mullagh, in the early hours of Saturday morning. The assault is believed to have occurred at around 4.40am.

He had spent three days in hospital battling for his life. He was initially brought to the local general hospital but his condition deteriorated and he was moved to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin, where he died this morning.

Gardaí are in the process of questioning all those who were attending a party in the house at the time of the assault. Investigating officers have also appealed to the public to come forward with any relevant information.
