They are also seeking witnesses to the assault, which took place between 1.30 and 2.30 am, as the woman, aged in her 20s, was walking along James Larkin Road, towards the Howth Road, in an area known as Blackbanks.

According to a statement by Gardaí this afternoon, a man grabbed her and pulled her to the ground, before a passing motorist came to her aid, and the man ran off.

The suspected assailant is described as follows:

  • 45-50 years old
  • Short, with black hair
  • Was wearing dark tracksuit bottoms with white stripes on the legs
  • Spoke with a Dublin accent

The motorist who intervened in the attack, who is described as being a middle-aged man, drove the woman to her home in Kilbarrack, but did not leave his name or any contact details.

Gardaí say they want to speak with him, or anyone who was in the area at the time and may have witnessed the alleged assault.
