AN ARMY BOMB Disposal Team was called into action overnight after a viable improvised explosive device (IED) was thrown through the window of a house in a Kildare village.
The Defence Forces deployed a team to Broadfield village just before 2am this morning acting upon a request from Gardaí after a device was thrown through the window of a house where there were a number of people staying at around 10.50pm.
Gardaí set up a cordon and evacuated the house and two other neighbouring properties. No one was injured in the incident and there was no damage to any of the houses.
The device was made safe at the scene and has been removed to a secure military location for analysis, according to the Defence Forces. The scene was declared safe at 2.45am.
The remains of the device will be handed over to Gardaí later today. The scene of the incident is being preserved for technical examination.
It was the 204th call out for the Army Bomb Disposal Team this year and the 42nd viable IED that was made safe.
