THIS FRIDAY WILL see hundreds of thousands of us take to the streets of our cities and towns for Culture Night – and we’re here to help you decide what to go to.

We’ve already covered Dublin city, and Cork City and County, and today it’s the turn of the West of Ireland (we’re including Kerry and Limerick here too).

Over the next few days we’ll be looking at some other parts of the country.

Mayo

• Get a demo in traditional furniture making at the Pine Rack (7.30pm)
• Get a taster for the many different cultures that call Mayo home at Tacú Ballinrobe FRC (7pm)
• Visit the gorgeous Westport House and Gardens (6pm)
• Find out about the history of the Irish poor in Victorian Britain, at the Jackie Clarke Collection (9pm) (booking advisable)
• Visit the Artsquad visual art workshop, see some paintings at the Ballinglen Arts Foundation, visit Custom House Studios, or see the work on show at the O’Dwyer Arts Centre.
• Families will love to visit the Ballina Arts Centre (4pm)
• There’s also traditional music at Comhar Dún Chaocháin and on Achill.

Galway City & County

• Wander the Wild Atlantic Way Walk in Galway City by meeting like-minded souls at the Spanish Arch at 5.30pm for a tour.
• The fantastic Charlie Byrne’s Bookshop will host readings and a live radio broadcast.
• Catch a number of films made in and about Galway between 1921 and 1974 at the Huston School of Film.
• Traveller writing, poetry, and music will be celebrated at the Hynes Buildings.
• Old-time trades and crafts will be explored at the Men’s Shed.
• Artist Fiona Reilly will take people on a tour of the systems of surveillance in Galway.
• Vintage and modern robots will be displayed at the Insight Centre for Data Analytics (7pm).
• Families will enjoy the world of the circus at St Joseph’s Community Centre in Shantalla (6pm)
• Travel through the county in a vintage car with Sparkplug Callaghan on a ‘culture chase’. (12 noon – 12pm – booking advisable)
• A night of craft and music can be found at Ceardlann Spiddal Craft Village from 6pm.
• Visit Jim Kavanagh’s art studio from 7pm in Annagh West.
• Athenry Heritage Centre will give a talk on architecture, Renaissance poetry and a visual presentation.
• Photographers Nuala Eising and Nutan Jacques Piraprez will show their art at Clarinbridge Parish Hall.

Roscommon

• An afternoon of music, literature and poetry will be run by the Roscommon Disability Support Group, from 4pm.
• The historic King House will host four themed interactive exhibitions.
• Take a candlelight tour of the beautiful Strokestown Park House.
• Writer-in-residence at Boyle Library, Gerry Boland, will talk books.
• Traditional music will be performed at Castlecoote House.

Sligo

• Bringing children? Try the Set Sail events (3.30pm/6.30pm), or Blue Raincoat Theatre Company‘s family-friendly workshop (6.30pm/8.30pm).
• William Butler Yeats‘ work will be celebrated at the City Hall.
• Have a drink and explore your arty side at Drink and Draw.
• Vinyl records fan? Head to Vinyl Culture from 6pm.
• The Masonic Lodge will be open for a look, and there will be a play called Spiked being performed there too.
• There’s also lots of theatre performances, heaps of local art events and gallery exhibitions (including a ceramic workshop and an open workshop), a sculpture workshop and even a fire performance.
• Grab coffee, a pastry and some music at the Big Bang event.

Clare

• Clare Youth Theatre will create ‘living art pieces’ throughout Ennis.
• The Enormous Crocodile, based on Roald Dahl’s story, will be presented in puppet form for children at 3pm and 4pm in Ennis.
• A number of artists worked on notebooks from July to September – they’ll all be on show from 7.30pm at the Ennistymon Courthouse Gallery from 7.30pm.
• There will be musical performances at glór, Kilkishen, Kilrush and Lisdoonvarna.
• Trad fans will love the Tulla Trad Festival performances or the Lissycassey young people’s trad music and dance.
• Literature and music events can be found at Scéal Eile Bookshop in Ennis from 6pm.

Kerry

• Find out how griddle bread is made (and no doubt sample some) at Brown’s Bar (7.30pm)
• African drumming culture will be explored at the Tralee International Resource Centre (7pm)
• The Annal of Innisfallen (which pre-dates the Book of Kells) will be on display at Killarney Library.
• An open studio with master crafters will be open (Gaeltacht event)
• Pauline Bewick will give a guided tour of her work (7.30pm)
• Kerry Film Festival will hold a Secret Cine Club and K-Fest will host a pop-up gallery in Killorglin.
• Ali the Acrobat will make an appearance at the Square in Tralee (6.30pm)

Limerick

• Writer Claire Keegan will give a talk and a reading (8pm)
• Guided tours of the Book of Kells will take place at Limerick Museum.
• John’s Square will be a hive of activity from 5pm.
• Some fantastic images of 1970s Limerick will be on show at the City Hall.
• A musical ensemble of visual artists will perform at Limerick City Gallery of Art.
• Jeanette Byrne will perform the music of Édith Piaf.
• Take part in pop-up printmaking at the Hunt Museum.
• Walk the Medieval Walls of Limerick.
