DEFENCE MINISTER JEAN-Yves Le Drian vowed today that French and Malian troops would chase down Islamist militants holding out around Gao.

Confirming that French and Malian troops had clashed yesterday with Islamist militants near the main northern Mali town, Le Drian admitted the rebels were still resisting.

“There were clashes yesterday around Gao,” Le Drian said on Europe 1 radio.

Once our troops, supported by Malian forces, started patrols around the the towns that we have taken, they met residual jihadist groups who are still fighting.
We will go after them. We are securing the towns we have been able to take along with the Malian forces. The jihadists around Gao were using rockets yesterday.

Questioned

Questioned over his comment yesterday that French troops had killed hundreds of Islamist fighters, Drian replied: “This is a real war with significant losses but I’m not going to get into an accounting exercise.”

Islamist group Mujao claimed Tuesday to have attacked the positions of French and African troops around Gao. Witnesses suggested that there had only been long-distance exchanges of fire.

Le Drian added that the French force in Mali had reached 4,000 troops and would not increase any further. The size of the force matches the French deployment in Afghanistan at its height in 2010.

Confirming the first French casualties since a helicopter pilot was killed in the opening hours of the campaign, Le Drian said there had been several French troops injured but that their wounds had been relatively light.

  • I wonder what Europe will look like demographically in 50-100years time? The facts are Germany have the oldest generation with most prevailing age group over 55. Most other white capitalist nations are not too far behind them. The same white capitalist based society are not having many kids either. Now Factor in immigrants who generally have large families at an early age and I think you will get the scenario. Ireland will not be exempt. Right now there are approx 13% of our nation are non irish,By 2050 we the indigenous race of this country as well as most other euro nations will be in the minority. By the turn of the century we will likely be down to less than 20%. We as well as most of Europe have completely lost our identities and yet we still allow mass immigration whilst our young are forced to emigrate . It just makes me very sad.

Why John do you believe the Islamists conducted a coup on the legitimate government over Mali in the first place? This is what necessitated foreign involvement.

Or are you trying to imply that France in their eager greed to get their hands on Mali’s resources infiltrated sections of Malian society, initiated a Islamist take over, waited for some stoning’s and stripping of the human rights of females and musicians among others so they could then go in under the guise of liberating the region from extremist sharia law and get all the gold? An elaborate plan indeed.

  • Again, what is an Islamist?

Are Americans in Iraq etc referred to as Christianists?
