Gardaí investigating death of elderly pedestrian in Cork

The 82-year-old was knocked down on Tuesday evening.

GARDAÍ IN CORK have issued an appeal for witnesses to a fatal road incident earlier this week.

An 82-year-old woman has died after being struck by a car on Melbourne Road in Bishopstown at about 5pm Tuesday.

She was taken to Cork University Hospital by ambulance for treatment. She was pronounced dead last night.

The driver of the car was unharmed.

The elderly woman is the second pedestrian to die in Cork this week. On Thursday evening, a man in his 70s died after being struck by a car. They were the 27th and 28th pedestrians to die on Irish roads this year. Altogether, 156 people have lost their lives in road traffic incidents since 1 January.
