I’m no frosty expert, but the data are only based on Unilever’s sells, which is only one ice cream maker, dominant in some, yet not all markets.
As for Italy, everyone knows that there are hundreds of small craft ice cream makers (Ireland barely got Murphy’s).

Ergo, the chart doesn’t reflect anything about ice cream really. At most it demonstrates which nations are dumped by food corporations.

This is a Unilever chart so I am not sure if it has taken into consideration that Italy is the only country where the market share of handmade ice cream versus industrial ice cream is over 55%. This chart might just be based on Unilever’s HB, Ben&Jerry’s and Walls ice cream consumption around the world.

  Agree. Needs to be EXPLICITLY stated whether these litres/year per capita are ALL ice cream consumed or just Unilever’s. The title IMPLIES all, and Unilever’s market researchers would certainly be capable of assessing the TOTAL consumption in each country in order to determine their market share. But with Italy showing higher than Ireland there are good grounds for doubt. One needs ALWAYS to be wary interpreting statistical data. Now I’m moving on ….!

Martin Dempsey, the actor in the HB ad, grew up in Cork. If he ran all the way from there to Hazelbrook Farm in Rathfarnham, he certainly deserved an ice-cream!

What’s the story in New Zealand? I have never been over, is there an obesity / diabetes problem there? It seems strange that they (appear to) eat more than three times the amount of ice cream than we do. Anyone know?

This may not be based on Unilever sales but a report commissioned by Unilever who would have sourced a market research agency to conduct it.
