HUNDREDS OF IRISH peacekeepers have arrived back in Dublin today after serving five months in Lebanon.
The 220 Irish troops were met by the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Defence Forces, Major General Ralph James, at Dublin Airport this afternoon – as well as family and friends.
The return of the 104th battalion comes just one day after a bomb exploded just 30kms from Irish Defence Force camp in the port city of Tyre in southern Lebanon. No Irish troops were injured in the incident.
Some 440 troops making up the 105th battalion will now take over duties by the last team, which has been serving in Lebanon as part of the UN-backed operation since June.
