Two for court over Kerry drug and gun raids

Two cannabis growhouses and a handgun were found in raids on homes in Co Kerry in the early hours of Saturday.

TWO MEN ARE due before court in Killorglin this afternoon over a series of overnight raids on cannabis growhouses this weekend.

Three people were initially arrested, drugs uncovered and a firearm seized in a the operation, targeting two houses in rural Kerry.

Gardaí from Tralee carried of a planned search of a house in the village of Fenit at around 1am on Saturday, in the first part of their operation.

Cannabis worth around €37,000 was found, along with a handgun, ammunition and a bullet-proof vest.

A man in his 30s and a woman in her 20s were arrested at the scene, and taken to Tralee Garda Station for questioning.

In a follow up raid, at around 3am, officers found cannabis worth around €140,000 at a house in Barrow West, in the village of Ardfert.

A 29-year-old man was arrested at the scene, and taken to Listowel Garda Station for questioning.

The two men will appear before Killorglin District Court at 2.30pm. The woman was released last night, and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
