Want a salad for lunch? There's a lettuce shortage
Some supermarkets in the UK are limiting the amount of produce customers can buy.
BAD WEATHER HAS led to a shortage of lettuce, spinach and other vegetables in Europe.
Some supermarkets in the UK are rationing the sale of certain produce due to supply issues, with customers only allowed to buy three units of the affected items in Tesco and Morrisons.
A spokesperson for Tesco Ireland told TheJournal.ie the chain is “currently experiencing supply issues with some fresh produce including spinach, lettuce, broccoli and courgette”.
However, Irish stores are not implementing a limit on the amount of produce customers can buy.
The spokesperson said: “This interruption to supply is due to adverse weather in Spain which has affected harvest in the region and in turn impacted delivery to Ireland.”
They said Tesco is working with its suppliers to ensure customers have “the best possible access” to products.
