IRISH RESIDENTS hoping to secure some last-minute tickets to the Olympics – which, contrary to some belief, actually begins in two days’ time – have been advised to ensure they only buy tickets from the appropriate sources.
Gardaí have relayed warnings from London’s Metropolitan Police who say they have become aware of a number of fradulent websites offering tickets for the Olympics and Paralympics, which begin on August 29.
Though a number of events have not yet sold out, tickets for those events are only available through the formal London 2012 ticketing website, at tickets.london2012.com.
A list of websites selling tickets on an unauthorised or fraudulent basis can also be found on the London 2012 website, and should be checked before hopeful travellers hand over any financial details.
The £28m opening ceremony for the Games takes place on Friday evening, but sporting events begin this Wednesday at 4pm when Team GB’s ladies football team open their campaign against New Zealand.
