Lucky couple to take honeymoon after scooping €500,000 Lotto prize

“We got married during the recession, so we never got the change to do it properly.”

A COUPLE FROM Monaghan who scooped €500,000 in a Euromillions draw are set to finally take their honeymoon.

Speaking at the National Lottery HQ today, the pair explained that they did not have the money to go on holiday when they were first married.

“We got married during the recession, so we never got the chance to do it properly then. We’re looking forward to doing it right this time,” they said.

Their ticket was bought at McNally’s XL Store in Cootehill, Cavan.

Collecting their prize, they said that they had only checked their numbers after realising that a winning ticket had been sold in Ulster.

Also collecting prize money at the National Lottery’s Dublin offices today were a husband and wife from Meath, who scooped €125, 440 after matching five numbers and a bonus ball in last Saturday’s Lotto draw.

Their winning ticket was bought at Ashbourne Gala store in Ashbourne, Meath.

“I checked my ticket at a Lotto scanning machine at a petrol station and I saw the message to contact National Lottery headquarters,” said husband.

I went back to my car and checked my numbers on the National Lottery website on my phone and I still couldn’t believe it. I actually had to call over a taxi driver who double checked the numbers for me.

He went on to say that the win would take a lot of financial pressure off of his family and will allow the couple to pay for the college education of their four children.
