Man arrested after bags of drugs found in car during routine speed checkpoint

Cannabis herb with an estimated street value of €60,000 was discovered.

A MAN IN his late 40s was arrested after being found with three large bags of cannabis during a routine speed checkpoint in Wicklow.

It happened on the M11 at Ashford yesterday evening.

The black Ford Focus car was searched after being stopped and cannabis herb with an estimated street value of €60,000 was discovered.

The man is currently being held at Wicklow Garda Station.

Meanwhile, gardaí arrested two people and seized a firearm following the search of a car on the M1 at Lusk, Dublin.

Gardaí recovered a 3.65 calibre handgun and a man in his 50s and a woman in her 30s were arrested, the pair are currently being held at Drogheda garda station.

The search happened at around 8.30pm and was part of an operation targeting organised crime in Louth.
