PRESIDENT MICHAEL D Higgins has arrived in London for his second official visit to the city this year.
The President visited London in February on his first official trip abroad after assuming office in November.
President Higgins and his wife, Sabina, are due to attend the official opening of three plays by playwright Tom Murphy which tell the story of Irish emigration.
The plays, Conversations on a Homecoming, A Whistle in the Dark, and Famine will be performed in Hampstead Theatre in north London in a production by the Galway-based Druid theatre company. The President and Sabina will meet with Garry Hynes, the artistic director of Druid Theatre, Tom Murphy, and members of the cast and production crew.
The President visited one of the main GAA clubs in London earlier today where he met with players and members of the local Irish community in Ruislip in north-west London.
President Higgins is due to fly back to Dublin on Sunday morning.
The visit comes ahead of Queen Elizabeth II’s visit to Belfast on Wednesday when she is due to meet Northern Ireland’s Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness. The two are expected to shake hands
