Michael Healy-Rae hospitalised after taking ill in the Dáil

The Independent TD for Kerry South had been taking part in a debate on the Social Welfare Bill earlier today.

INDEPENDENT TD MICHAEL Healy-Rae has been hospitalised after becoming ill at Leinster House today.

The TD for Kerry South had been taking part in a debate on the Social Welfare Bill which is going through the Dáil today.

RTÉ reports that he was returning to the chamber ahead of a vote when he was advised by colleagues  to leave the chamber as he appeared unwell.

It is understood the Minister for Health Dr James Reilly attended to him outside the chamber before he was taken out on a stretcher and brought in an ambulance to St James’s Hospital.

When Healy-Rae’s office at  Leinster House was contacted by TheJournal.ie this afternoon, Healy-Rae’s sister said: “He’s fine,” but declined to comment further.

Healy-Rae was elected to Dáil Eireann at the last election, taking the seat vacated by his father Jackie Healy-Rae.
