But what makes and models were viewed the most? We’ve taken data from DoneDeal and looked at the SUVs that garnered the most attention in 2016 based on the number of adverts viewed.

It’s no surprise to see the Nissan Qashqai top this list with almost 2.9 million ad views. The Qashqai is very popular in Ireland and there is a huge amount of stock so plenty to choose from on DoneDeal. This means the cars are priced competitively and buyers can pick up a great deal.

It’s also no surprise to see that six of the ten cars are Japanese and Korean. They have a reputation for being very reliable and dependable cars that just keep on running and reliability is generally everything to a second-hand buyer.

Japanese and Korean brands often have strong residual values too – another reason for their popularity. BMW and Volkswagen cars also have good reputations for reliability and resale values.

The BMW X5, Land Rover Discovery and Volkswagen Touareg are all large, luxury 4×4 SUVs that are rivals in their category. They cost a fraction of the price second-hand that they do new.

The Land Rover Freelander is also a luxury 4×4 but it is smaller than the other three. These are all very desirable cars with loads of badge appeal.
