Poll: Are you now more likely to watch the Paralympics?

The London 2012 Olympics have been haired as one of the most successful Games in modern history – but are you going to watch the Paralympics when it kicks off?

THE LONDON 2012 Olympic Games came to an end last night with a spectacular and surreal closing ceremony.

The event marked the end of what is being hailed as one of the most successful Games in modern history – and it’s not over yet. Around 4,200 athletes from 150 countries around the world will be competing in the Paralympics, with the opening ceremony taking place on 29 August.

More than 2.1 million tickets out of a total of 2.5 million have already been sold for the games, and organisers have said they are hopeful it could be the first time the Paralympic Games sells out in its 52-year history.

So today we’re asking: Given the success of the Olympics, are you now more likely to watch the Paralympics than you were before the Games began?

Channel4 have been doing some awesome stuff with the Paralympics. Their promotional material is much better then the BBC’s equivalent.

Setanta Ireland will be showing 10hours of live coverage per day, free…. You DON’T need a subscription!
Also, lots of live streams on http://www.paralympics.org throughout the games.

The paralympians have to train as hard if not harder then the able bodied Olympians and if anything they provide more inspiration,pity they don’t get the coverage that is afforded their compatriots,seems ch4 is the only broadcaster that appreciates the time and effort that these great athletes put into their chosen sports.

  It’s more misleading than unjust – I suspect most people are simply marking whether or not they will watch the Paralympics, which wasn’t the question. I’m afraid the poll results should just be dumped. I’m looking forward to the Paralympics, and the Olympics did whet my appetite.

I’ll be going to it supporting Mark Rohan the Ballinahowan bullet. Hes some man. Like all our athletes the effort put in has been savage. Best of luck to all our paralympians.

There will be lots of coverage. On Cable TV you can catch it on Setanta Ireland, Channel 4 and More 4.

I don’t see why they don’t run the paralympics along side the rest of the events. Even having the closing event last night is wrong its an insult to anyone taking part this week.

  There is no one taking part in anything this week.
  
  Also, the Paralympics is a completely separate event with it’s own identity.
  It has a lot of categories and it would be logistically impossible to run at same time as Olympcs.

We’ve got a great Paralympic team thus year, we should do really well. Plus wheelchair rugby is an awesome sport to watch, it’s vicious!!! Top class. :)

  How can you be tired of it if you don’t even watch it?
  
  We live in a society where there are literally hundreds of TV channels at our fingertips and countless more viewing possibilities via the internet. In this day and age the whole notion of people feeling trapped into watching something that’s “everywhere” seems completely devoid of any reality.
  
  Perhaps you could learn to live and let live, Christine, and accept that if tens of millions of people really like something it will be on TV. Being “tired” of there being people who have different interests from you you and calling for TV that caters to that interest to “STOOPPPP” is really very intolerant and judgemental.

  I am not the one who is ALWAYS SHOCKED about me not watching the olympics!!!! I am tired of PEOPLE telling what to do you HAVE to watch the Olympics otherwise your not “worth living” – I DONT MAKE JUDGEMENT AT ALL, you should read again Peter!
  And of course I agree with the useless senseless prorgamme on TV thats why I will get rid of it by the end of the year…. I let live from the bottom of my heart, watch and enjoy but don’t judge people who just DONT HAVE interest!! Peace!

  Yeah, it would be ok if it was just the olympics, but we’ve had pretty much solid sport for months, the european cup, Wimbledon, olympics constantly shoved down our throats. Not everyone loves sport, some of us want to just watch the news and actually get real news. Katie Taylor and the Irish team aside I’m just not interested. I simply want the sports back in the sports news section so that i can choose not to watch it. I’m going to get a lot of thumbs down for this one.

  I too am sick of sport. Fair dues to all the paraolympians they deserve to get coverage, but I’m afraid I’m less likely to watch, i’m suffering from an overdose of sport.
