THE EAST COAST of the US is still counting the cost after superstorm Sandy struck late Monday night.
Thousands of homes lost power, leaving their inhabitants – the lucky ones, let’s remember – relying on their food stashes.

Actually, I found this quite fascinating from a weird perspective. Taking into account the absolute crap these people have as their ‘emergency food’ and considering everyone knew sandy was coming and that it was gonna be bad none of these brain boxes thought it would be a good idea to stock up on non perishable foodstuff. And could you imagine if they had to go a few weeks due to prolonged natural or even a man made disaster? I’m thinking Americans wouldn’t last very long.

That’s exactly what I was thinking. I agree with the comments about the irrelevance of the article but the tweets do tell a worrying story. I am away from home for a week and there is more food than that in my house. Plus I have a generator, gas hob with spare bottle of gas and enough oil to gets through the winter and we don’t have hurricanes!

Hey there. Just to explain – Sandy is of course a major natural disaster and we’ve been covering all the developments as they break over on TheJournal.ie.
