POLICE IN NORTHERN Ireland have made one of the largest seizures of cannabis plants in recent years.
A house near Foreglen in Co Derry was raided last night, and £400,000 (€507,000) worth of cannabis plants were recovered.
Two men have been arrested.
Chief Inspector Alan Hutton, the Area Commander, described the find as “a sophisticated operation”.
“The house had blacked out windows and a heat supply to the plants. Inside were about 900 plants at different stages of growth,” he said.
This find shows that cannabis cultivation is a Northern Ireland wide activity. It can occur in both urban and rural areas. The plants were uncovered by Limavady neighbourhood officers on patrol of the rural area last night.
A 58-year-old was arrested at the scene last night, and this afternoon the PSNI arrested a second man, aged 25.
Earlier this month, half a million euro worth of cannabis plants were seized a house in Armagh.
