Still 12 seats to be filled with counts resuming today

Three recounts will take place today in Wicklow, Laois-Offaly, and Galway West.

RECOUNTS WILL RESUME in the Laois-Offaly, Galway West and Wicklow constituencies this morning with 12 seats still to be filled in the next Dáil.

In Wicklow, outgoing Fianna Fáil Europe minister Dick Roche has requested a recount after he was eliminated on the thirteenth count with still ten candidates including him vying for the five seats in the constituency.

Fine Gael is hoping to secure three seats from Andrew Doyle, Billy Timmins and Simon Harris. Sinn Féin’s John Brady and Independent Stephen Donnelly are in fourth and fifth currently.

They’re followed by Labour’s Anne Ferris and Tom Fortune and then Independent Joe Behan with Roche’s Fianna Fáil colleague Pat Fitzgerald also yet to be eliminated

The full recount will begin at 9am this morning.

In Laois-Offaly, counting was adjourned in the early hours of the morning after a full recount was requested by Fine Gael’s Liam Quinn.

His party colleague Charlie Flanagan had already been elected to the five seat constituency on Sunday afternoon. Fine Gael’s Marcella Corcoran Kennedy is also hoping to be elected.

Fianna Fáil is hoping to secure two seats through Barry Cowen, brother of the outgoing Taoiseach, and Sean Fleming with Sinn Féin’s Brian Stanley also hoping to secure a seat.

And in Galway West a full recount will resume this morning after Fine Gael’s Fidelma Healy Eames requested it yesterday afternoon.

Fianna Fáil’s Eamon Ó Cuív and Labour’s Derek Nolan had already been elected to this five seat constituency.

Independents Noel Grealish and Catherine Connolly are hoping to be elected with Fine Gael’s Brian Walsh also heading for a Dáil seat. He is currently ahead of party colleagues Seán Kyne and Healy Eames.
