#CENTRAL BANK: Hot on the heels of the IMF’s grim forecast this week for Irish economic growth, the Central Bank has today revised their forecast for GDP growth downwards slightly. The institution also says Ireland will stay above 14 per cent unemployment until the end of 2012. It also mentions that it believes property prices will bottom out this year.
#QUINN GROUP: Sean Quinn was once the richest man in Ireland. Today, he and his family were ousted from any role in the Quinn Group which owes €2.8bn to Anglo Irish Bank. A restructuring plan hopes to save the jobs of the thousands of Quinn Group employees.
#MONEYGALL: There was some drama in Moneygall, Co Offaly this morning ahead of Barack Obama’s visit there when a truck carrying explosive material crashed into the local shop. A further twist in the plot? The shop owner is also the owner of Obama’s ancestral home in the village. We have a slideshow of pics at the scene taken by… the local Anglican rector who discovered the records confirming Obama’s roots in the area.
#HERO MILKMAN: It has emerged that a milk tanker driver saved the lives of two men trapped in a burning car in Fermanagh last week. Michael Coyle hosed the contents of his tank over the car to extinguish the flames.
#AIR SAFETY: The head of the US aviation watchdog resigned today after a series of over a series of recent incidents in which air traffic controllers fell asleep on the job. The latest snooze-fest to be investigated involves a controller who nodded off for a quarter of an hour as a plane with an ill passenger on board tried to land.
