1. #SAVITA: HIQA has announced details of its investigation into the safety, quality and standards of services provided by the HSE to patients, including pregnant women, at risk of clinical deterioration – looking specifically at the case of Savita Halappanavar.

2. #UNEMPLOYMENT: The Euro area’s unemployment rate has risen to a new high of 11.7 per cent in October, up from 11.6 per cent in September. Spain is ranked as the country with the highest rate of unemployment and Greece a close second.

3. #MENTAL HEALTH: A new study has found that mental health and family conflict issues are the main reasons for young people visiting their GPs in the Mid-West. GPs revealed that depression, anxiety, family conflict, suicidal thoughts/behaviour and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder were the most common issues, followed by substance abuse and antisocial behaviours.

4. #PALESTINE: After Ireland joined 137 countries at the UN general assembly in voting for the status which will enable the Palestinians to join UN agencies and sign international treaties, Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore today said the historic vote should pave the way for further peace negotiations with Israel in the region.

5. #SAVILE: A man in his 80s from Berkshire in England has been interviewed by officers working on Operation Yewtree, an investigation set up to inquire into allegations made against television presenter, Jimmy Savile and others.
