1. #IRISHTOWN: Tributes are being paid this morning to Tom and Kitty Fitzgerald who died in an assault in Irishtown, Mayo, yesterday. They were described as pillars of the community.

2. #GARDA STRIKES:  Talks between the GRA, AGSI and Government figures took place last night to try an avert the garda strikes. There has also been anger after the garda commissioner ordered striking gardaí to come into work on Friday.

3.#SHOOTING: A man is in a serious condition after a shooting in Dublin last night. The incident occurred at Raheen Drive in Cherry Orchard last night, shortly after 9pm.

4. #ARREST: A man has been arrested after a fire in an apartment complex in Clongriffin last night. Over 80 flats were evacuated.

5.#TRUMP: A new national poll has put the Republican leader ahead of Clinton with under a week to go to the election. Political commentators have blamed the Clinton email scandal on the sudden swing.

6.#GRACE: A report into claims of sexual abuse at a foster home in the south-east found that the HSE failed to investigate concerns fully. Last year RTÉ‘s This Week revealed the story of Grace – a young woman with profound intellectual disabilities who was left in a foster home in the Waterford area for almost 20 years despite a succession of sexual abuse allegations.

7.#MOSUL: Iraqi troops  have forced their way into jihadist-held Mosul as a top commander declared the “true liberation” of the city from the Islamic State group had begun.

8. #HOMELESSNESS: A new suite of counselling rooms have been opened by the Dublin Simon Community, aimed at offering counselling to people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

9.#THE OUTLOOK: It’s a cold start to the day but Met Éireann expect temperatures to reach highs of 11 degrees today.
