• The Independent Broadcasters of Ireland has welcomed proposals from communications minister Pat Rabbitte to replace the TV licence with a ‘household broadcasting charge’ – and have called on him to use the introduction of the new charge to examine how the licence fee is distributed.
• Two adults have been hospitalised after a schoolbus crash in Co Offaly, which occurred at around 2.45pm topday. It is understood that the driver of the schoolbus was the only person on board the vehicle at the time of the crash.
• A €670 million satellite is to be named after 10-year-old Adam Vaughan from Swords, Co Dublin, whose drawing ‘The Solar System’ for an art competition on the theme of space and aeronautics won him the right to have a Galileo satellite named in his honour.
• Writing in TheJournal.ie today, Socialist TD Clare Daly argues that now might be the time to revive the Irish-coined concept of boycott instead of complying with the €100 household levy – saying that the levy was a “gateway tax”.
• Today the Minister for Finance Michael Noonan and the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform Brendan Howlin, held a press conference from on the outcomes of the most recent EU-IMF bailout review. It had five main points of note, which you can read here.
• Texas governor Rick Perry has dropped out of the US presidential race ahead of the South Caroline primary, and has given his backing to Newt Gingrich.
• A new study by the World Health Organisation has found that unsafe abortions are increasing in developing countries - placing women there at a greater risk of medical complications and death.

• It seems that the Irish like good, old-fashioned family-friendly entertainment, with the Late Late Toy Show and the Eurovision Song Contest being the most-watched television shows of last year, according to figures released by RTÉ.
