Two arrested after body found in Bandon river

The body of a 27-year-old man was recovered just after 11pm last night.

TWO PEOPLE HAVE been arrested after the body of a man in his 20s was found in the river Bandon in Co Cork last night.

The body of a 27-year-old man was recovered from the river in Bandon in West Cork shortly after 11pm after locals raised the alarm.

The body was taken to Cork University Hospital where a post mortem will be carried out today. The office of the State Pathologist has been notified.

A short time later, a man and a woman, who are both aged in their 30s, were arrested at an apartment block in the town.

The scene where the body was recovered and the apartment block have been sealed off pending a technical examination by a garda forensic team to be carried out today.

Gardaí are also appealing for any witnesses who may have been at Bandon Bridge between 10.30pm and 11.15pm last night to contact the incident room at Bandon Garda Station 023 885 2200, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
