1. #HEANEY: The Taoiseach and the President are leading tributes, following the death of Nobel Laureate Seamus Heaney at the age of 74; Enda Kenny said his passing brings “great sorrow to Ireland”.

2. #FUGITIVE: Runaway solicitor Michael Lynn has been arrested in Brazil. He fled five years ago leaving debts of over €80 million. Lynn was granted permanent residency in the South American country in 2011.

3. #SYRIA: US Defence Secretary Chuck Hagel has said America will seek to build an “international coalition” to take action against the Syrian regime, after MPs vetoed British PM David Cameron’s call for military strikes.

4. #SHOOTING: Gardaí are investigating after a man was shot in the Clondalkin area of Dublin last night at around 10.30pm. He was later pronounced dead at Tallaght Hospital. A witness appeal has been issued.

5. #STRADBALLY: The tenth anniversary Electric Picnic is under way in Co Laois. Some 35,000 music fans are due to attend. Fatboy Slim headlines the main stage tonight. The weather forecast, those lucky enough to secure a ticket will be pleased to hear, is pretty good.
