WITH ITS CRISP outside and soft, garlicky inside, garlic bread must be one of the most satisfying side dishes. Who can resist the combination of garlicky butter and fresh crusty bread?

While garlic bread is usually eaten along with Italian food, it is not a traditional Italian dish by any means, and is an American derivative of the classic Italian bruschetta.

Regardless of its origin, there is no denying that hot-from-the-oven garlic bread is incredibly satisfying. Here are some ways to take yours beyond the norm. 

1. Cheese and Bacon Garlic Bread, from Lavender and Lovage: Okay, let’s put it this way; cheese + garlic + bacon + bread = a winning combination. Need we say more?

2. Garlic Bread Plaits, from Nadia Lim: A great recipe to have up your sleeve for when you’re expecting guests. The smell from this baking n the oven will be impressive in itself! Want to be super prepared? This dough also freezes well.

3. Wild Garlic Soda Bread, from Hey Pesto: This is an ‘Irish’ take on garlic bread using wild garlic and home made soda bread. Can’t get your hands on wild garlic? Regular garlic cloves will work just fine.

4. Avocado and Tomato Loaded Garlic Bread, from Delalicious: This recipe takes only minutes to make and is a great option for brunch, lunch, or an easy snack option at any time of the day. The recipe creator recommends using a wholewheat variety of bread to make this extra delicious.
